Silkworm - Firewater (1996)

Deconstructed indie rock, punk rock, slacker rock, sure, pieced together but still unhinged, invariably- drier, more angular, their secret lies in their ability to convince you it's all sloppy when really it's direction, even purpose.  Maybe it's because their drug of choice isn't weed (Pavement, Dino jr) but beer (...), dudes sound like they've got some real low-life topics and issues going down- desperation rather than apathy, hangovers rather than wordplay. At its worst it's Pavement without the fun (weed), and at its best it's a down-to-earth Slint meets guitar heroics (beer). Fuckin rocks m8
